Similar to what was done in 2019 and what we've seen on the King Samurai and King Turtle, Seiko this year again covers one of its iconic timepieces in a layer of high-end materials. The previous Sumo had a sapphire crystal at its beginning. The 2022 Seiko Sumo focuses on both its appearance, with new dials and colors and its resistance to all external elements, using new materials.
The watch's overall design is also unaltered; it has the same twisting lugs, a curved profile, and alternately polished and brushed lines. Owners of watches from earlier generations will recognize the watch because the crown is still at the 4 o'clock position. Additionally untouched are the sapphire crystal, screw-down case back and crown, and 200m water resistance. What has changed since then? The watch is now made of stainless steel with a Super-Hard coating, which improves its overall resistance to impact.
