No matter if it is fine or costume jewellery, there’s always a reason or sentimental value for every piece of jewellery you have and thus we want to help you keep that piece in the best quality and extend your jewelleries longevity. Here are some tips to take the utmost care of your jewellery to prevent tarnishing, scratches, dullness and fading.
But our tips are as follows:
1. WOOD IS BAD.
Wooden objects are usually treated with chemical to prevent staining, water absorption and to extend the woods longevity. These chemicals do react different to metals and could do more harm than good. Do not leave or keep your jewellery in a wooden jewellery box or furniture that has been treated.
2. KEEP IT DRY.
Keep your jewellery in either airtight boxes or moisture absorbent boxes with microfibres for the best tarnish prevention.
3. SILVER AND CHALK.
Silver jewellery is very sensitive to moisture and a hard counter to that is chalk that absorbs moisture. If you find that to dusty for you, a dehumidifiers or silica packs does the job almost just as well.
4. AVOID SKINCARE PRODUCTS.
Apply lotions, perfume or hairspray and finish of by putting your Jewellery on last. Don't wear silver jewellery when you plan to go swimming or at the sauna.
Moisture in all forms are bad and best to avoid it in every way.
5. AVOID TOO MUCH SUN.
All forms of gemstones are located in dark spaces, protected by earth and metal mixtured. Gemstones are not use to sunlight and the colour will dull out if exposed to sun of long period of time depending on the gemstone.
6. DON'T WEAR IT OUT.
Jewellery is beautiful and everyone has their favourite piece. To prolong the life of your jewellery, switch them out now and again, giving all your jewellery time to be in the spotlite.
7. GOLD IS SOFT, DIAMOND IS HARD.
Silver jewellery is inherently hard and will scratch gold jewellery if put in the same pouch or bag. Keep them seperate. This is also valid for keeping different types of gemstones together. They all have the potential to scratch each other. Keep jou jewellery separated.
8. SHOW YOUR JEWELLERY LOVE.
If you wore a piece of jewellery for the day and it showed you love for that day, return the favour and use a anti-tarnish cloth before storing it again. This will make sure that any lingering moisture, skin oils or dust is gone.
9. TOOTHPASTE MYTH.
Never use toothpaste on jewellery. It is too harsh for jewellery and will do permanent damage to your jewellery.
